Pax 3 Vaporizer Review
Manufactured by Pax Labs, the Pax 3 is the brand’s newest vaporizer release which introduces several upgrades to the Pax 2. This vaporizer heats in less than 30 seconds, has four preset temperatures, one custom-temperature setting, a larger battery, and features Bluetooth connectivity that allows users to modify the settings through the Pax 3 app.
The Pax 3 vapor path and stainless-steel oven are the same as the Pax 2. Overall, we have found that both the Pax 2 and the Pax 3 have remarkably similar exteriors; and most of the changes done on the Pax 3 has to do with the functionalities.
We love that the Pax 3 also offers you with two kit options: the basic kit and the complete kit. The basic kit includes the Pax 3 vaporizer, charger, raised and flat mouthpieces, and a cleaning kit. The complete kit, on the other hand, comes with everything the basic kit offers and includes extra accessories such as a concentrate insert, extra screens set, a half-pack oven cap, and a multi-tool. The additional accessories that come in the complete kit is worth over $100, thus, it offers a better value for money compared to the basic kit.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), there are currently over 460 vaporizer brands on the market. Thus, if you are searching for the best one to purchase, you might find the choices quite overwhelming. Moreover, this vaporizer review might help decide whether to pass or go for the Pax 3 vape.

How Pax 3 Works
In order to use the Pax 3, you will have to take out the magnet lid at the bottom of the vaporizer to uncover the heating chamber. After doing that, you can now fill the device with herbs.
When turning the device on, you need to press the middle of the mouthpiece located at the top of the device. Select your preferred temperature by pressing and holding the power button while the vaporizer is on the “enter the temperature” menu. Shortly press on the power button to see the five temperature setting options. Once you have decided which temperature to pick, simply press and hold the power button to select it.
The first four temperatures are the same as the Pax 2’s settings while the fifth one is an added custom temperature which you can set through the Pax 3 app. Additionally, the Pax 3 now has an improved heat time compared to the Pax 2. It will take 15 seconds to reach your desired temperature. The vaporizer will the vibrate and the light will turn green indicating that the device is ready to use.
On the other hand, when using this vaporizer with concentrates, you need to take the concentrate container, fill it with your chosen concentrate or wax, and put the container into the device’s oven. When vaping with concentrates, we suggest selecting the highest temperature, which is setting 4.
The Pax 3 App
Aside from allowing you to set a customized temperature for the Pax 3, the Pax 3 app also offers various heating modes. These heating modes will eventually change your experience with the vaporizer. Below is the list of heating modes available at the Pax 3 app.
- Standard: This is the standard setting used for this vaporizer which boosts the oven’s temperature whenever you take draws for a consistent temperature. The oven’s temperature will drop down until you take a draw again.
- Boost: This heating mode increases the strength of heating while you are drawing from the vaporizer. It diminishes the cooldown time whenever you are not drawing. This heating mode is perfect for you if you just want to take brief vaping sessions or a session with heavier vapor.
- Flavor: This mode basically works the same as the Standard heating mode, but it provides more needed heat. This essentially means that once the vaporizer has delivered the initial heat-up and you begin to take draws, the temperature will then rise more quickly to maintain the temperature. The device will quickly cool down once you stop drawing. Due to its fast cool-down function, this heating mode is great at preserving the flavors of the herbs.
- Stealth: Just as the name suggests, the stealth heating mode works by dimming the light and providing a more rapid cooldown in between draws to minimize odor.
- Efficiency: This heating mode works by slowly increasing the device’s temperature by 1°C over the course of the user’s vaping session while utilizing the Standard heating mode’s functionalities.
The Temperature Settings
Both the Pax 2 and the Pax 3 come with four preset temperatures, which are 182°C, 193°C, 204°C, and 215°C. However, a fifth temperature setting has been added to the Pax 3 which can be customized between 182°C and 215°C. The fifth temperature setting can be accessed through the Pax 3 app.
Moreover, here is the list of the four temperature settings which both the Pax 2 and the Pax 3 offers:
- First setting: 180°C
- Second Setting: 193°C
- Third Setting: 204°C
- Fourth: 215°C
The first and the second temperature setting offers tasty and light vapor, while the third and fourth delivers denser vapor with a stronger kick of flavor.
We liked that the Pax 3 vaporizer allows users to control the temperatures during each session instead of settling for a predetermined temperature setting over the course of a five-minute session. We also find it highly convenient that this vaporizer comes with a shut-off timer.
The Pax 3, just like the other Pax Labs vaporizers, are engineered with the oven situated distantly from the mouthpiece at the bottom of the device. Having this distance along with the device’s flush mouthpiece and isolated airpath ensures that the vapor is cooled down for smooth and cool draws.
The Vapor Quality
The Pax 3 delivers a super dense, tasty, and smooth vapor which is what we want. It is also great that you can modify the vapor quality with this vaporizer by customizing the temperature and heating modes to match your satisfaction. For the best results, it is recommendable to dry your herbs first through the de-humidor box before using it.
However, given that the Pax 3 still utilizes conduction heating, it will not be able to deliver the purest flavors when compared with convection-style vaporizers. Convection vapes generally offer more innovative mechanisms, but they are more expensive compared to conduction-style vaporizers.
Moreover, the Pax 3’s heating modes are definitely what changes the ball game in terms of vapor quality. If you want to experience denser vapor at brief sessions, you should select the Boost heating mode. On the other hand, if you wish to have a session with more potent flavors, you should opt for the Flavor heating mode as it helps maintain your herb’s flavors by increasing cooldown times.
Another excellent feature that we discovered with the Pax 3 is its ability to save herbs. Unlike other conduction vaporizers that cook herbs even when you are not taking draws, this vaporizer conserves your herbs as well as its battery life. The Pax 3 features a lip-sensing technology that helps the device detect when you are drawing or not.
When you put down your Pax 3 vaporizer, its temperature will automatically drop down after 30 seconds. When you pick it back up and put the mouthpiece on your lips, it will then boost the temperature back up. Furthermore, the lip-sensing feature works even more excellently when paired with a stronger heating mode.
This vaporizer’s auto-shut off timer is another great feature that helps you conserve herbs. After three minutes of not moving the device, it will automatically shut itself down.
The Vapor Path and Stainless-Steel Oven Quality
The Pax 3 is engineered with a stainless-steel oven and a vapor tube that leads to the mouthpiece located at the device’s opposite end. For optimum safety, this vaporizer is equipped with medical-grade materials that are considered safe and hazard-free for vaporizing. It also comes with a non-ceramic tune-thin film heating element that is secured to the oven as well as the vapor path’s exterior.
The drawing resistance depends on how well you pack a vaporizer’s oven with herbs. We were quite surprised by how the device was able to deliver a satisfactory vaping experience when it was tightly packed.
Ease of Use
When you are not using the app, the Pax 3 is just as straightforward as the Pax 2. It offers the same functionalities and mechanisms which is perfect if you are looking for a no-fuss kind of vaporizer. However, the virtual additions to the Pax 3 allow the device to deliver the optimum vaporizing experience.
If you are not tech savvy, it might take you a while to learn how to use the Bluetooth app with this vaporizer. You will have to play around with it so that you can learn and understand how to modify the settings and explore what each heating mode is for.
If you are certain that you don’t want to use your phone with your vaporizer, we suggest you opt for the Pax 2 as there is essentially no point in going for the Pax 3. The Bluetooth connectivity and the fifth temperature settings accessible via the app are basically the only features added to the Pax 3.
Ease of Cleaning
Keeping your vaporizer clean is extremely important to ensure optimum performance. Cleaning the first Pax vaporizer was quite a task, however, the manufacturer was able to fix that issue with the Pax 3.
When keeping your Pax 3 vaporizer clean, you essentially must take care of three sections: the mouthpiece, the oven, and the vapor tube. Both the Pax 3 Basic and Complete kits come with Isopropyl Alcohol and a couple of pipe cleaners. All you need to do is add some Q-tips and cotton swabs and you are ready to go.
Another great thing that impressed us with the Pax 3 is its increased battery capacity. The Pax 2 offers 3000mah while the Pax 3 offers 3500mah. Although a 500mah increase is not that significant, it still equates to up to two added sessions, which is a bonus especially if you are outdoors and cannot charge your vaporizer anytime soon.
We are pleased that the Pax 3 was able to last around 90 minutes while we were testing it. Although this vaporizer’s battery is not the most long-lasting on the market, we still think that it offers one of the best battery life capacities given the unit’s size.
Moreover, when owning an electronic tool such as a vaporizer, you should be aware that the battery can also be a hazard to your safety.
Listed below are tips for avoiding vaporizer battery explosions provided by the FDA.
- Invest in vaporizers that come with safety features such as overcharging protection.
- Never let loose batteries touch other metals in your purse or pocket such as coins, keys, hairpins, etc.
- Do not charge your vaporizer through a tablet or mobile charger. Always use the charger that came with it.
- Avoid charging your vaporizer overnight.
- Immediately replace damaged or soaked batteries.
Construction and Aesthetics
In terms of construction, you will immediately notice that both the Pax 3 and Pax 2 have the same exterior build. They look so sleek that you might not recognize them as vaporizers when placed in your girlfriends’ beauty vanity. Overall, there is not much change in terms of dimension, mouthpiece, heating chamber, and vapor tube.
On the other hand, in terms of aesthetics, the Pax 3 offers a glossy finish while the Pax 2 has a brushed-aluminum finish. We actually prefer the Pax 2’s finish because the glossy exterior of the Pax 3 can easily look grubby and picks up fingerprints very easily. For this reason, a microfiber cloth will come in handy in helping you maintain a neat look for your Pax 3 vaporizer.
The Pax 3 is one of the most compact vaporizers we have found on the market. It has a height measuring 3.87 inches and a 1.21-inch width. It is also extremely lightweight offering a 3.86-ounce weight. Therefore, if you are put off by those bulky vapes, the Pax 3 is one of the best units to go for.
Given that this vaporizer is just a bit larger than a lipstick bullet, you can easily slip it in your pocket or purse without its presence being noticed.
Moreover, given this vaporizer’s exceptional battery capacity for a very compact size, we are extremely impressed.
Is Pax 3 For You?
The Pax 3 is a highly versatile vaporizer which pretty much anyone can use. This vape can also be used anywhere conveniently given its compact size and long-lasting battery. It also offers a sophisticated and sleek look as well as optimum durability. The Pax 3 is also a great dual-purpose vape device that allows you to use herbs as well as concentrates.
However, despite all the excellent features and functionalities the Pax 3 offers, we think that this vaporizer is not suited for those who are not keen on technology. If you are someone who does not fancy the idea of using your phone to navigate the extra features of you vape, then there is no point in investing in the Pax 3.
On the other hand, if you are tech-savvy and are willing to explore the new experiences this vaporizer has to offer, then it is worth the investment.
