Overall Manufacturing and Design Quality
The overall design of the Firefly 2+ stays the same from the previous Firefly 2. However, their only difference is the Firefly 2+ has an extra window located underneath the viewing portal. This window highlights the brand new logo, giving off a sleek modern look to the design.
Besides that, the rest of the design remains the same. This isn’t a bad thing as the original Firefly 2’s design was already really well-made. You don’t have to fix what’s not broken. Features you may know from the Firefly 2 is still present. These include the convenient magnetic cover and the touch sensors located on either side of the device.
The location of each touch sensor can be very awkward for some users. They are placed in a way that you have to hold the vaporizer in a weird position when using it. This design may be intended to avoid the vaporizer accidentally turning on while in your pocket. You can customize which of the sensors you need to press to activate the Firefly 2+ in the smartphone app.
Compared to other vaporizers in the market, the Firefly 2+ is fairly large. Even so, the design of its shape and size makes it very portable. The Firefly 2+ has rounded edges, meaning that it is very pocket-friendly compared to other vaporizers.
You can easily take it out of your pocket without it getting stuck and vice versa. This design is perfect in addition to the on-demand heating feature of the Firefly 2+, letting you take a quick hit while on the go. You can also easily remove the mouthpiece if you need to, eliminating the worry of it getting dry.
For the materials used, the body and lid of the Firefly 2+ are made of magnesium alloy. The viewing portal is made out of quartz. A ceramic superalloy is used to make the heating chamber which works perfectly with the air path made of borosilicate glass. Both of these materials will ensure that the purity of the vape stays intact and high-quality.
Overall, the design and manufacturing quality of the Firefly 2+ is outstanding and is what you would expect from a premium vaporizer. It may be a lot more complex, compared to other vapes in the market, but it is still very easy to use. You’ll get the hang of it sooner than you think.
The performance of a vaporizer can make it or break it for most users. We’re happy to report that the Firefly 2+ passes with flying colors. Its dynamic convection heating ensures that the flavor of your hits is always consistently high-quality.
Compared to the Firefly 2, the 2+ has a much lower draw resistance, making it much easier on your lungs. You will find that inhaling the flavorful vapor using the Firefly 2+ is much easier and more enjoyable compared to the Firefly 2.
Do note that the resistance of the Firefly 2+ is still higher compared to most vaporizers out there, but it is significantly better compared to its previous version.
Every hit you take on the Firefly 2+ is designed to be around 15 to 30 seconds long, any more can become uncomfortable. The first six to seven seconds are very flavorful, containing most of the vapor’s rich flavor. It gently rams up the temperature and starts releasing thicker vapors, making long hits that can become uncomfortable.
We preferred taking short ships of the vapor, around 10 to 15-second draws. We also recommend going the same route for the Firefly 2+. If you prefer this kind of style, this vaporizer is the right one for you.
We’re going to give it to you straight, the vapor quality of the Firefly 2+ is certainly one of the best in the market today. Of course, achieving this quality will require proper technique on your part but seasoned users will have that down already.
The vapor is extremely, smooth, delicious, and quite potent. The best draw times for the Firefly 2+ is around 10 to 30 seconds. Each of these hits may be fairly short but they feel stronger compared to other vaporizers, making them feel like their own mini sessions.
Additionally, the Firefly 2+ is only one of a few vaporizers in the market that performs extremely well with concentrates. It can reach the right temperatures to properly melt the concentrate in its mesh pad, allowing you to take a few very flavorful and nicely sized hits.
Although the Apple Store is removing various vaporizer apps from its catalog, the Firefly 2+’s smartphone app still deserves some praise. Android users can still use the various features it provides which enhances the experience of the Firefly 2+.
First off, the smartphone app lets you set a wider range of temperatures, compared to the onboard temperature controls of the Firefly 2+. The on-board temp controls only let you set around 320F to 420F in 20-degree increments, with a 500F setting for concentrates. The app expands this by letting you set the temperature as low as 200F to 420F in 10-degree increments.
On top of this, the app also provides various tutorial videos to help you further customize the configuration of the Firefly 2+. You can adjust the controls of the touch sensors to relieve some of the awkwardness when using the device.
The main feature of the Firefly 2+ is its on-demand heating capabilities. The Firefly 2+ is only one of two vaporizers that have this feature available on the market today. The other vaporizer with on-demand heating is the Ghost MV1.
On-demand heating allows the vaporizer to instantly heat up or cool down, this allows the user to vape a single oven whenever and wherever they want. You can easily take a small hit when you feel like it and immediately place the vaporizer back in your pocket, hassle-free.
In a regular session with other vaporizers, users will have to vape the whole oven in one session. With on-demand heating, it allows users to break up the oven into small independent sessions whenever they feel like it. In a nutshell, on-demand heating provides users an option to microdose if they want to. This option is not available for session vaporizers.
The battery life will largely depend on your usage habits. However, the Firefly 2+’s battery contains around 770mAH, which translates to about 2-4 bowls. We believe that at this price range, the battery life could be a bit better. There are plenty of premium vaporizers out there that feature a more robust battery life.
Cleaning and Maintenance
The cleaning and maintenance process of the Firefly 2+ is fairly simple and easy. You just need to open the lid and wipe down both the glass and bowl. Another thing to do is to check the mouthpiece screen for any signs of clogging.
What’s more of a hassle is the constant requirement for convection vaporizers to be cleaned and maintained. You’ll find yourself cleaning a lot more often compared with other vaporizers.
That concludes our review of the Firefly 2+. If you’re a vape connoisseur, then this vaporizer is worth picking up and trying out. Its price is more than justified with the number of high-quality traits it has. The build quality and design alone will justify the price tag. We hope that this review solidified your decision on whether or not you’ll purchase the Firefly 2+ vaporizer.
